Seventh-day Adventist Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to accomplish two things:
- First, He died to save us from our sins. No amount of doing good things can do what He did for us on the
cross.
- Secondly, He died to break the power of sin in our lives. He gives us the ability to live the New Life
through His power and love. This we call the Gift and the Claim.
The Claim of His Gift penetrates every part of our lives. We live differently as we allow Him to shape us more
towards the things of heaven than the things of earth. We also worship differently. Saturday is observed as
Sabbath because that is when we believe God has asked us to rest and
meet with Him.
The Claim also encourages us to prepare to meet Jesus when He returns. It also compels us to tell others the
news. We support Christian education kindergarten through college. We want to educate and train individuals
who are motivated toward this sharing of the Good News.
In this context, the East Salem SDA Church desires above all else to be, as the Apostle Paul admonishes:
Biblical, Gracious, Authentic, and Relevant.
